Asking for recommendations in how you might be getting around ID verification on websites and online marketplaces?
I want to be able to use my local online marketplace, but I keep getting asked to provide ID verification or my ads for second hand items dont recieve as many views as a result?
Edit: when referring to online marketplaces I was referring to second hand marketplaces like Carrot, Kijiji, Craigslist, Facebook.
Sample IDs online, AI-generated fake IDs (one of the few good uses for AI). It depends on how the detection is being done. Uploading an image is the simplest, the ones that hijack your phone’s camera and gyroscope are trickier but not impossible. Pick an ID that can’t be easily checked automatically (e.g not every country’s drivers licenses have barcodes linked to public databases)
Do a bit of trial and error and turn it into a game. Remember under most circumstances you’re under no obligation to provide genuine personal info to these websites, the worst they can do is ban you
Since you’re already familiar with the Fediverse, you may be interested in Flohmarkt. It can serve as an alternative to those marketplaces.
Edit: updated the link to the list of instances.
This post about a European marketplace may be relevant too.
For me, US specific sites are tricky. As in, if you are overseas, you cannot access them due to security reasons. For example; DMV sites. You need to use a VPN and choose a US server to access. Those sites usually always have ID verifications… and theres no way around them
I dont use services you listed, but i face similar ID verifications on similar sites. What i did: switch VPN to another countries. Sometimes it works though.
