It’s just a different Wafrn instance, which is why you couldn’t log into it.

As far as I’m aware it’s the first and only other Wafrn instance run by someone besides the creator of Wafrn. Hopefully in time there may be more.

Similar situation to Irelephant, first I’m reading about Loforo. Doing some brief research, it doesn’t look like Loforo’s integrated ActivityPub that much, nor does it seem to be open source so others could run their own instances.

In those respects Wafrn is the clear choice for a federated Tumblr-like, as it’s open source and integrates ActivityPub thoroughly. As a matter of fact, a little more digging and I found where someone has been helping test run another Wafrn instance in the form of “evil” Wafrn.

Whenever you like, honestly. It’s mostly a nice acknowledgment to the poster that you appreciated their post. Unlike commercial social media it’s not sending out anything to your followers that you interacted with it (at least last I checked).

I think many people boost more than favorite because it functions a little similarly in regards to acknowledgment, with the bonus that it helps share the post to others which is even more relevant in federated networks than on centralized platforms.

I hope more resources are put toward restoring and preserving their environments so they don’t go extinct. Fascinating as hell creatures, and who knows if there’s anything else like them out there.

Aah, that may explain it! I thought it might be best to check logged out for a better sense of how search worked, so was searching logged out.

I checked on a different up to date instance (lemm.ee) knowing that, and confirmed it was federated with the relevant community, but didn’t see those results.

Strangely enough I can’t replicate similar results searching lemmy.ml either, so not sure what’s going on. 🤔

Regarding community search, sorry for the lack of clarity. I dropped a clear example when revising, I was referring to searching for a community by the form “videos@\sopuli.xyz”, note the missing ! from the start.

Maybe that’s more of an edge case?

Seeing as this thread is still active, instead of continuing to reply to people throughout, gonna go ahead and put this out here.

If you’re not finding an active community for something (safe for work, that is) or any community whatsoever for your interest, you’re welcome to post about the topics that interest you in !general@lemmy.world till you find enough likeminded people to get a separate community going. This was always allowed tbh, but I’ve tried to make it more explicit and clear that it’s cool.

Given the absence of specific communities (or active ones so far), if people would like they could start these conversations over in !general@lemmy.world.

I recognize it’s not the same, particularly for getting to those deep dive points you mention with ATLA, but gotta start somewhere, right?

Also I can easily give this go-ahead being one of the mods there. Up to now I’ve hesitated popping into threads like this and pointing people there because I’m not a fan of consolidation, but it’s become apparent some simple meeting area may help to get more niche communities spun off and going.

You might try different media if you haven’t already, as in, instead of pencil/pen and paper, maybe colored pencils or markers. Maybe even try getting some black paper and trying to draw with white color pencils instead.

I’m sure you may have tried a variety of things over the years, so I’m just spitballing, but also if you’re trying to dive into the deep end with more complex drawings, you might revisit and really hone the fundamentals. Fundamentals being like getting clean lines by practicing drawing those over and over till you can get a nice, sharp line (which often isn’t a single pencil/brush stroke!).

Once you have those down you may move on to the simple shapes, squares, triangles, circles, and try to recognize how those are put together for more complex forms. It’s a tough skill to get down, without a doubt (I’m not some proficient artist personally), but it’s just that: a skill that takes not only practice but learning methodologies. One of the toughest parts with drawing is that there’s so many methods to go about it to figure out which helps you improve.

Thanks for the update! The discussion on private communities is definitely an interesting one. Lots of small details to work out, but I think they’d be a great addition. Sort of surprised there wasn’t already an instance-level default sort setting, but that should be interesting to see if instances experiment with it more.

Also linking that post reminded me, hopefully somehow a smoother way to link posts across instances can be worked out (albeit that’s a general federation quirk from what I’ve seen, Mastodon runs into similar stuff sometimes).

I think this would likely be the simplest solution and is worth considering especially since similar concerns have been raised with Mastodon over their naming of messaging specific people (“private”/direct/mentioned only/etc.).

Exclusive may be another good term instead of private.
