A good one will sell you a cheap bike and even let you pay a decent chunk of it in labor of fixing bikes (and learning to fix yours). Not only is this two hobbies for the price of a few drinks, it’s also a good way to make friends, build skills, learn good trails, and feel connected to your local community. You also can get cheap used parts. The bikes won’t be high end expensive ones, and you may decide some parts are worth paying manufacturer prices for (several used trigger shifters led to me buying new), but when all is said and done they’re usually pretty decent bikes. And you can find weird shit you may not have known was a thing.

It’s not some cosmic battle or any of the other shit some people will use to grift, but some people are liars who more or less don’t give half a shit who they hurt to get what they want (or maybe they do, some might, just not enough to not do it). There are other types of evil out there too. The banal variety has been made famous, but there’s an evil made of fear, an evil made of self righteousness without reflection, an evil made of tribalism… I also think distance from the consequences of one’s actions is a contributer. Power makes you a less moral person and all that.

One of my favorite examples was when the creators of Avatar the Last Airbender were deciding to create their sequel about the next avatar they decided to make their protagonist a woman and executives at nickelodeon complained that boys wouldn’t be able to relate to a female protagonist.

The explanation I’ve largely heard that makes sense to me is that women are taught women are generally expected to learn to empathathize with male protagonists whereas the inverse is much more optional. You have plenty of men who do get into wonder woman and she ra and korra, my childhood best friends are among them, but you also get a lot of men who don’t in a way where I can’t think of an inverse that I’ve seen
