Also somewhat proud (with slight embarrassment in admitting that) of this comment on the thread for the news article “Porn industry jumps into presidential campaign, targeting Project 2025”. The reply I got was a great gag as well.
I think I speak for most people when I say that I’m a good representative of the general population.

I was very proud of my idea for a regional ditto for the pokemon franchise, and someone whipped up an amazing illustration in the comments: link
Eastward is one of my favorite games I’ve ever played. My only significant criticism is that I spent most of the game looking forward to how all the loose ends to the story would be explained and tied together and then it just ended without that really happening.
I had a lot more trouble with Maniac Mansion than DotT, I always got all my characters thrown in the dungeon. My favorite thing about it, at least the version on Weird Ed Edison’s computer, was that it played music using the pc speaker, which is now a concept lost to time.
I login to lemmy often enough that I would notice. Lemmy grew a lot overnight the last time reddit pissed off a lot of their userbase with one decision. There’s good and bad to that, it was nice to see this place grow, but it became much less friendly when redditors flocked here. I’d expect more of that.
It took growing up to get it, but I love the scene where the peasant is explaining to King Arthur that strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is a terrible basis for a system of governance.
At some point about a decade ago I realized I’m much happier just paying the extra $8 every couple months when I go to get a haircut and otherwise just letting it grow out.
Yeah, I wasn’t considering kodi and jellyfin as music players because they serve a broader purpose than that, but I guess they should count. I do have jellyfin set up for movies and shows, but I’ve stuck with strawberry for music because the player interface is a bigger priority for me than having a remote is.
I use strawberry now, which is a clementine derivative. Having my library in one column on the side and just pulling stuff from the library to a variable custom playlist is my preferred player style. Exaile is also like this, and deadbeef too if your library is organized and you add the filebrowser plugin. I use strawberry over those two because it’s the only one I can get from the main arch repositories and I try to minimize AUR usage.
Pragha actually fits this style too and is still in the arch repos, but I don’t understand why because it stopped getting upstream updates years ago and is a buggy mess compared to strawberry with no advantages.
I definitely miss the clementine remote though, being able to control the player from an android phone was so convenient and I don’t know any other player that has similar.
There are only finitely many prime numbers and I will not hear otherwise.
I don’t remember where I read this quote originally and I can only paraphrase it, but observing people living in a capitalist society and concluding that human nature is self-centeredness and greed is equivalent to observing workers in a factory that is poisoning their lungs and concluding that human nature is to cough.
I swear even the time I finally won I successfully clawed at Scar’s face over a thousand times before I realized you just throw him off the cliff.
Living on my own I was really good about any mess I made in an instant being dealt with immediately. Dishes would not pile up, etc. Any problem with a longer accumulation time might as well be there forever though, dust bunnies can have eternal lifespans.
I didn’t find it so bad, but a switch to living with someone who just does occasional cleaning can throw your living space into chaos. The tiny psychological difference between “making a new mess” and “contributing to an existing mess” has way too much impact on what tasks will get addressed, and it’s difficult as all hell to break free from that.
Rushing on a snowy day, walked into an open manhole. To this day I have no idea what I landed on, I was shoulders-deep and when I came back the next day the snow was gone all I saw was the manhole cover.
One time I got ready to head for grad school just like any other day and I realized I forgot to close my shirt drawer and was like huh, I’ve never forgotten that before. Nine or ten hours later I get back home and Buddy has not come out to greet me, instead I see our other cat Oceanborn, who is quite antisocial. I walk into the bedroom and Oceanborn paces in front of the dresser meowing and my heart sank into my stomach when I realized what I had done. For just a moment I felt so awful but opening that drawer just to see him do an enormous yawn and then a stretch and then jump out all happy, there’s something to be said for moments of terror for someone’s well-being that instantly turn to pure comedy when you realize they’re fine.
Black cat snuggled up in my black shirts. Later that evening I saw him use his paw to open the dresser drawer and hop in again, so it turns out he had just taught himself a new trick without having the decency to inform me about it.
If you’re looking for a “something that’s explained oversimplifiedly then a lot of people say they get it (and are wrong)”
I studied math and my first thought here is Gödel’s incompleteness theorems.
One Christmas when I was like seven years old, my great aunt Ruth stayed with our family. She was a nun and for some reason this meant that, on principle, we had to attend Christmas mass at the proper time (Christmas morning) and we were not allowed to open any presents until mass was over.
The sermon was over three hours, I had a cheap casio watch and was timing it.
Tarja-era Nightwish is so good.
I haven’t thought about this in like 20 years but when I was in middle school late 90s some kid had an album where one of the songs was titled “You Rollerblading (f-slur)” and I remember thinking it was the worst music I had heard in my life. 90% sure it was grindcore music, I didn’t know what grindcore was at the time but my memory of the sound kind of fits that mold and the album had like fifty tracks and every single one of them was like 10-15 seconds long.
The first one is correct as others have said, but the second one is not ambiguous enough to confuse anyone nor weird enough for anyone to bat an eye at, you’re fine with either.
