Mostly on my Lemmygrad and Hexbear accounts. But still like Lemmy.ml and the people on here. Not a liberal, conservative, or a fucking fascist! The masses need to wake up and see how much we have been and continue to be lied to by those that want us to stay dumb and hating each other!

  • I get those a lot from other sites (weirdly YT Music doesn’t on FF or Zen) like Amazon Music (even when just trying to buy a digital track or album). Weirdly the sites will act normal for a moment or two before removed about my browser not being “updated” or otherwise Chromium-based. We managed to break the internet being coded for IE, but allowed Google to openly make the new IE. Safari seems to work for some of the sites, but that is just because Apple made all the iOS browsers use Webkit with custom skins on one of the top selling phone/tablet options.

  • Since you at least know the layout. Typing of the Dead can be fun for forcing you to start using more fingers as things come at you. I needed to force myself to get better in order to make sure I could pass a timed typing speed and accuracy test for a data entry job. Played it a little every night for at least a week before my interview. I was still kind of slow, but was much more accurate. Which got me into a position that corrected or found missing information from the main data entry folks. If arcade zombie games aren’t your thing, there are some other good games mentioned in the other comments.

  • I am okay with it so long as it is at least using the real/translated words, and would be best if it was possible to have like dual audio/visual options in the same file. Or al least have clickable links to source files. I think it can (and that is a big “can”) be very useful for getting more people exposed to more things that they would likely not bother with because of not wanting to read. Or more specifically helpful for folks that can’t read (like vision impaired) which a normal video doesn’t have a good option for a screen reader program. Just really depends on how it is used or abused.

  • That one is what I thought of too. But I wonder what extra issues it would cause. If they are profiting off people uploading things that they don’t have the rights to (which I would imagine is still most of it), then it seems like it would be easier to go after reddit itself. Though I am only guessing and don’t know actual laws. The other issue is that porn is the thing that main stream sites that like to act like they are “clean” go after first. Which would mean a possible second mass exodus of users/traffic. Just like Verizon found out real fast when they tried to “clean up” Tumblr. Though I would guess reddit does have enough non-NSFW users and content to weather it much better.

Being fully transparent, I really only ever spend time on reddit when looking for such content since it is much safer from malware ads and fake links. Also better categorized for really specific interests with 4chan levels of daily users posting. Aside from that, I imagine that I will also be impacted by so many old threads that happen to have randomly crucial answers to very specific tech or misc (non-NSFW) problems I am dealing with. It is already very frustrating to get hit with their “You look sus and IP will be banned unless you sign in” warning screen if I happen to be not signed in and having all the ad/tracking blocking extensions and a VPN turned on.

  • For real. Given how many of the “attractive” cases are becoming very modular/config swappable, It would be cool to see even an add-on option for them that allows changing the faceplate and mount points for a 5.24in bay. Not expecting to see all the “fish tank” cases do this, but some could make it work. Maybe ones that are wide dual chamber ones with metal plate space could have a vertical option.

  • I got an internal BDXL drive and flashed firmware to make sure I can rip the 4K discs I started getting as part of physical bundles. Still need to start getting NAS drives to be ready for when my main PC stops being my daily driver+Plex Server before I had to get a new TV that could view them (still don’t have a dedicated player and annoyed the PS4 Pro didn’t ship with 4K playback). For now I can at least hook my PC to the TV if I really want to watch a disc.

  • For real! Every time I spend real periods of time with Linux (and a random year with a MacBook Pro a friend wanted to get rid of). It always hits a point where I need to view images and can’t find anything that matches IrfanView. I have tried XnView and it is way too much with regards to the UI and features I don’t need. The most frustrating thing (and this applies to most others I tried) is handling going through a folder of images that are different resolutions. IrfanView has the option to both scale the program’s window based around the image size, and also be set to scale images if the are larger than my display resolution.

It is a very weird combination of those two things that drives me nuts. There are settings in XnView that kind of work but break. Like it might adjust the image that is large, but then the program’s UI will not shrink to fit a small image (the window will just stay large and have large black borders). Or it will shrink the window to the width of a large image, but not scale and the height will still require scrolling up and down to see all of it. The funny part is that I don’t even look at my saved images all the time. But shit is like a hard slam on the breaks at high speed.

I did end up just dealing with the kind of weird clunkyness of running it via WINE while on the Mac as it was my only PC at the time. Which was still better than not having it for my use-case. Just weird how it has been the only image viewer (with mid-level editing options) that has “felt” correct ever since I first tried it out over like 17 years ago.

  • Sending US troops in any capacity seems to me that US hawks are wanting to increase the chances of US troops being killed. Which then means that the US can then justify sending everyone in that they want.

Use the excuse of “they attacked 'Merica” and do the same shit that happened in Afghanistan and Iraq (just with Israel “inviting” them in and as a “supporting” army). Which will of course ignore all of the US citizens that have been murdered by Israel.

They want so badly to bring back the “hero” trappings that WW2 had, but they will be siding with the fascists this time around. And would have “perfect” excuses to attack China and Iran via false flag shit (again using Nazi tactics). Hell, they might even pull-off something with Russia that can be used for the death spiral that NATO Article 5 promises. Be like all the shit that made sure WW1 would happen if literally anything popped off.

  • Everyone does know. I can’t speak for all states/counties/cities/etc, but the brown bag thing is mostly a legal grey area for allowing folks to drink in public. Most of the time drinking isn’t legal to just do while walking around and can be given fines by cops. However this can be problematic for additional resources being redirected from more important crimes. So as long as the cops don’t see a label or the whole bottle/can, then they can ignore it as “it could be anything.”

For example, in the summer people in my state like to go tubing down sections of rivers. While tubing you can have coolers and stuff, however open drinking of beer or other such drinks isn’t legal. So if cops were to be watching the river and clearly see the labels it can mean that they order you to get out and hand them over and/or be fined. But everyone makes sure to put their cans/bottles in foam cozies, and therefore it is a low-key unofficial understanding that as long as you aren’t smashed and/or causing lots of problems everything is good. The same also applies to other places like lakes and the beach (at least in my state). But if you are super drunk and/or being an asshole, then the cops will use that as probable cause to actually search the bag/cozies and all that.

  • I work on peoples’ PCs at work (regular people and not business IT), and one thing that I do for every PC I work on is add uBlock Origin Lite to Chrome and uBlock Origin on other browsers no matter what. As 8 or 9 times out of 10 the shit that caused someone to bring in their PC for cleaning are actually full-screen scam messages and scummy ads on sites or from emails. The only times I ever randomly get someone that is upset about the blockers being installed are from either the pickup person not showing them how to use them. Or I get a random person that actually uses those “news” start pages like MSN, Yahoo, AOL, etc. not understanding that the blank slides in the main slideshow are not actual articles and are ads.

  • I also went completely to FF on my phone the moment it had uBlock Origin and some other extensions. Now that I learned how to force other ones, it has been game over for other browsers aside from just seeing how they are every now and then (I work with general public and need to be aware of how they work). The only thing I would really really advise in addition to FF on a non-rooted device is setting the Mullvad ad-blocking/tracking blocking DNS for the device.

It helps even if I need to use a different browser (not as good as also having uBO), and has really good chances of blocking ads in many apps. For example, I kind of treat the Microsoft Solitaire app since it keeps games and stats from my PC. However they have lots of video ads that play after a couple of games. With the DNS it just kind of glitches when an ad should run and just goes on to the next round instead. The only odd thing I see with other apps is that it can cause my bank app to take a little longer to load when signing in (I am guessing due to tracking it is trying to do). But after like ten seconds it goes through like normal.

This is the DNS address to add if you want:

    https://base.dns.mullvad.net/dns-query

And here is the main site for all their options and tester to make sure whichever one you pick is working:

    https://mullvad.net/en/help/dns-over-https-and-dns-over-tls

  • And I was over here thinking the 100GB Blu-ray M disc that came with my BDXL drive was some wild shit. It has been wild seeing how big some PC cases are these days, but don’t even have 5.24 bays. Would be dope to have some discs like these to use as cold storage for my Plex server/complete uncompressed rips of literally all of my DVDs/BDs. Sad that these things would be kept at some wildly high prices since they would be overkill for normal media releases. And since many of the companies are starting to scale back on said releases in favor of revokable digital copies and subscriptions.

I will always have a soft spot for spinning discs and other weird storage.

  • I was going to also say that OP might be wanting something like Recall (which might be one of the few instances where it constantly saving shit would be perfect). But they would need like the most extreme version that isn’t just saving searchable screenshots.

I also think that one major issue for OP is more about how the actual sites are coded these days. As even if a single tab is being used, the shit can just decide to force it to update the contents at any time (like how just having Gmail open you will see new messages just show up even without refreshing your browser).

It seems like the perfect situation for OP would be if the web still worked like it did pre-web 2.0, but with using the current version of FF. Outside of that, it really seems like they need to just start having sites be auto-completely downloaded for full offline use.

I am still shocked that the main issues being had seems to be that it taking 10s of mins to allow FF to process that much stuff is the frustration. Which does seem to mean FF is holding up pretty well given the situation. Their complaint about tab isolation being too much overhead seems odd though. As it would seem that going back to not having that would mean a much higher chance of just everything just being yeet-ed out of nowhere.

I am not sure how their headspace of using virtual machines approach would be much better as shit would still have the issues of sites still self-updating and loading up in the first place. Though given they seem to have dramatically more coding experience, I am much more ignorant of this shit.
