Science laws won’t cease to exist, but if you wipe out everyone’s memory, their knowledge of that science will cease to exist - so they’ll have to figure it out from zero - and there’s no guarantee that there won’t be another placeholder in a sense (i.e. what religions have been historically) for what’s yet to understand.

Edit: maybe it’s more accurate to say science laws would cease to exist, but won’t cease to work; they would cease to exist in a formulated way (in that hypothetical memory loss) since they were put together by humans.

  • Could be, I don’t know. I doubt that video creators would go through all of these old videos just to update them to a slightly higher bitrate; the other possibility is that YouTube kept the original uploads or higher bitrate variants without previously showing them (and only showed them now), but that seems like a huge waste of storage, so it seems unlikely to me. Again, we’re talking about old uploads (2-3 or up to 10 years ago), not new ones.

The one thing I’ve seen that makes sense is updating old videos that were previously available at up to 480p and bringing them up to 720p or 1080p (with the idea of keeping the original published video with the views, comments and so on instead of uploading a new one).

  • Ads aside, what’s been infuriating me lately is that YouTube seems to have degraded the quality of existing videos and locked the previously available quality behind the “1080p Enhanced Bitrate”; I have no way of confirming this since I obviously don’t have Premium, but I’m fairly sure that the regular 1080p of old videos that I rewatch from time to time (uploaded 2-3 years ago or earlier) is now worse than it was. If it was about new uploads with something previously unavailable, it would’ve been somewhat understandable. Something also tells me that the paid tier is also going to get ads eventually.

  • I can’t think of an equivalent phrase in Bulgarian for that, but it’s known that [most] threads tighten when turning clockwise… and if you don’t know what direction the clock goes, what are you even doing with screws or bolts…

And again there are special cases even outside of threads - for example in plumbing there are some valves that are open when the handle is parallel to the pipe and closed when the handle is perpendicular - and it might just happen that the closing motion happens counterclockwise.

  • That Canadian tech guy. The channel has some good content, but that whole drama with the ex-employees, even without knowing the whole story, stinks of a toxic workplace, and I don’t want to support that. Plenty of other good tech-related content that I still follow - Level One Techs, Gamers Nexus, Hardware Canucks, Hardware Unboxed, JayzTwoCents.

Fro Knows Photo - used to have some good content years ago when I watched it, but started becoming more and more annoying, with clickbait thumbnails on almost every video.

SMoD - a good source for getting to know new/unknown bands in the doom/stoner/sludge metal realms, but unsubbed after the scandal.
