The Android private DNS setting is just for a DNS-over-TLS resolver. The only thing about it that’s private is your queries are encrypted en route to the server (traditonal DNS is cleartext). There’s no filtering or blocking.

Some Android versions also have a hard coded DNS server set to Google, which based on my tinkering uses DNS-over-HTTPS. Not only is it annoying but I find it awfully insecure - even if you think you have stuff locked down it might just not be. I fixed that issue by blocking all DNS-over-HTTPS servers in my router, and also have all outgoing requests to port 53 redirected to my local resolvers (Pihole + Unbound).

This reminds me in broad strokes of the thesis of Sakai’s Settlers, which is roughly contemporary. In the introduction Sakai similarly calls out social sciences like “African American studies” and “Asian American studies” for what they are, the societal position and historiography of these peoples from the perspective of the white settler. Settlers thus aims to discuss the white settler in similar terms, ie. as the subject of such “science.”

The trend to shutting out China from the west started with Obama’s “Pivot to Asia.” At this point the only point of contention between US ruling elites is whether China or Russia is the primary threat.

Political means more than just parties and institutions of government. Society and economy is inherently political. Who owns what is produced and the tools used to produce it is inherently political. Therefore software development, just like any other type or work or other economic interaction, is political.

Socialist enterprise and markets can be competitive, in fact more competitive than a capitalist system. China is actually super innovative now, having caught up technologically with the west in part by leveraging the same import substitution policies and general disregard for other countries’ capitalist’s “intellectual property” which drove industrialization in the western nations.

The two big differences between socialism with Chinese characteristics and western neoliberalism are the fact that SWCC places at its core collective ownership of the means of production and state investment in developing said means of production. Whereas the west privatizes everything and only invests state funds in the further enrichment of the few who own said privatized means of production.

Capitalism cannot compete with socialism. But of course these Wall Street ghouls will never admit that this is yet another admission that their system only enriches them at the expense of everyone else and the planet.

I mean that the NYT is and always has been a huge part of the misinformation and propaganda efforts of the White House. More generally I also can’t take any “Russian propaganda” narrative seriously, given the context of the complete debunking of the Russiagate conspiracy theory and the fact that the US is for all practical purposes at war with Russia.
