  • You could add a word or phrase to remind people that it’s being given away for free to anyone that wants to run it. That might get people to think about any benefit they are getting out of it, and how much they want to donate in response.

I’m not sure what is the best wording for that, but just be careful in case someone misunderstands and thinks it might become paid someday. I’ve seen that complaint in the past

For example, this could be misinterpreted:

and if you want to keep using it for free

You can also add a note about the frequency of the messages. Saying that you will only remind people once a year is nice to hear, and that way people won’t dismiss it thinking they will do it when they are reminded the next time

  • You might be better off looking for a community where the moderation optimizes for that kind of discussion (ex. Removing low effort comments, requiring citations, academic oriented, etc). It’s harder to find an entire instance that matches those points, but there should be a few communities like that

Then you can use the subscribed feed only, or block the communities you don’t like

  • The wikipedia seems to keep using words like “it claimed to X”

    Also

The shipping date for the product has been delayed for various reasons, but photos from the manufacturing process have been made available. As of early May 2016, the company was months overdue to ship to its Indiegogo backers, with some backers accusing Batteroo of running a scam.

TechnologyCatalyst suggested that the device could be useful “if Batteriser was honest about its product”, not to prolong battery life but to stabilise voltage over its lifetime.

So I think the other comment is reasonable. Rechargeable batteries (ex. People mention Ikea ones and Eneloop) are pretty good now so people that want it can go for those

  • Ehh

There’s a clear difference between accepting money from an entity and letting it control things and make decisions. Pushing for a full and clear separation from any potential conflict of interest (while noble) is how projects die.

I’d love for Firefox to be fully funded through small anonymous public donations in an ideal world. As it is, I don’t see an issue from taking Google’s money to do something that most users would want anyways.

If the default search wasn’t google, I’m certain even more users would bail on Firefox. Anyone who does want an alternative search engine is capable of clicking on it during installation.
