Being gay doesn’t mean someone is somehow less masculine, which is the heart of what the “homo water” idiot is implying.

Was the British Empire, upon which the sun never set, somehow not masculine enough? One could argue it ran on tea. Morally questionable, absolutely, but not manly enough?

Were the samurai somehow compromised in their masculinity because they drank tea, sometimes in elaborate ceremonies?

And, apart from tea, were the Sacred Band, the elite warriors who died to a man fighting Alexander the Great’s dad, somehow less manly because they were all gay?

I bet this colleague of yours also thinks straws are gay in this parlance, as if it’s somehow more manly to put one’s lips on the same glass rims touched by hundreds of others. I guess hygiene is not masculine or heterosexual.

And the thing is, even my rant here is problematic because it spawns from a lifetime of people equating gay with not being enough of a man, an attitude that infects my own thinking.

Shit, the most feminine of men is more of a man than these idiots if he stands up for his identity unapologetically.

I tried reading two different series from Stephen R. Donaldson, and it seemed to me he was somehow unable to write a book without a horrific rape. I just stopped reading the first book in each case because I felt like they were salacious and hateful.

If Kev and his cronies keep pushing their neofeudalist garbage, that might just be the solution we’ll see.

There’s a lot of talk these days about people being cancelled. This guy seems like the sort of person that would be an excellent candidate for it. I believe we, as a society, ought to collectively express our disgust at this kind of behavior.

So how is it done? How do we figuratively light the signal fires of Gondor and call forth the hosts to confront this evil?

Adam Something is a favorite of mine.

Honestly, I could deal with Adrian’s shenanigans just fine. That whole thing was supposed to be over the top, so they shifted most of his story to non-canonical status. I understood why, at the time. But then, the main storyline moved on to a lot of odd muscle porn stuff that was kinda not important to the story. I was dealing with that when I came across a thread lamenting the fact that the actual Gilgamesh of ancient legend was coming into the story as a living character somehow. I read ahead to confirm, and then I gave up. It was just one ridiculous bridge too far. The beautiful HFY story I’d started reading all the way back with Kevin Jenkins (whose character transformed in some nonsensical ways himself) was just too off the rails for me at that point. Add the dismissive treatment of female characters later on, and it was just another story ruined for me. So many great characters and so much unrealized potential…

There were some seriously emotional stories in the Jenkinsverse, but there were so many side stories that went nowhere. I’ve just been disappointed too many times to continue to sort through it all.

If you liked it all, more power to you. It had some pretty fantastic moments. It just transformed too far away from what I enjoyed about it for me to continue.

God, I’m still so sad that that universe went so off the rails. It’s like the GoT of online fiction.

People act like their mamas never told 'em to cover their damned mouths when they cough or sneeze. It’s the same damned thing, only masks work much better at keeping your filthy germs from infecting other people.
