I primarily mean video games. However, if you’ve played some kind of interesting table top or card game I’d like to hear about that too! I’ve been replaying the Witcher 3 lately.
I’m a sucker for nostalgia and a believer of game preservation, and I managed to figure out, with some guides, how to setup my own private World of Warcraft server using AzerothCore. It only goes up to Wotlk but IMO, that’s the best expansion anyway.
I’ve been using it currently to solo play the game with bots. Funny enough, the bots actually dodge fire! Lol. But since it has bots that means I can still do dungeon and raid content! And I don’t have to deal with the stress of juggling a raid schedule. I can just play whenever I want, however long I want.
It does also have the option to be port forwarded to allow friends to join. But I don’t have any good friends interested in that. And I don’t want to make the server fully public for reasons.
Unfortunately, its very complicated to setup. So I highly recommend finding a guide before trying to install it. It does require setting up a virtual machine and running a bunch of scripts. So it can be a bit complicated for anyone who isn’t tech savvy.
That’s actually amazing, can you choose the bots you’re filling the raid/party slots with? I’ve got wicked nostalgia for wotlk and my partner was interested in wow when classic came out but they’ve had bad experiences with pug raids in other games (heck, even issues with guilds). Would you mind posting a link to some of the guides you used?
Yes! You get to invite the bots and choose their talent specs and everything. And you can fill raids with them too!
The following YouTube video is a step-by-step guide to setting up AzerothCore with player bots. It is a bit complicated but if you follow along, you too can get a WoW server stood up ;-)
Once you have the server, you can use the ChromieCraft client and edit “WTF/Config.wtf”. And set the “realmList” to the local IP of the virtual machine.

Oh also, here’s a link to the player bot commands list. It’s a bunch of text commands. Nirv has a addon that lets him issue commands but for whatever reason it’s incompatible with some of my preferred addons. So I just create chat macros and use an action bar to issue commands.

Note: I feel like I should warn… Nirv is kinda an a-hole. But he is very smart and knowledgeable about this stuff. So maybe just focus on the tutorial and getting it setup etc.
Thank you, I’ll have a look after work!

100%'d Silksong, my game of the decade so far.
It took them seven years to make it. I doubt they will release another installment in five years so definitely GotD.
I know… but DLCs confirmed!
I played Blue Prince for a long time, currently taking a break because it’s incredibly mentally taxing.
Been playing the Iron Oath a lot lately. It’s a tactics game with permadeath and feels D&D inspired, it has a few issues but nothing game-breaking.
Board games, I’m always playing Betrayal at House on the Hill, but we also tried Call to Adventure recently and that was pretty fun, would like to give it another go and get the hang of it.Playing Ghost of Yotei at the moment and absolutely loving it. Tsushima was an all timer for me so I’m happy for more.

Tabletop ?
Alice is missing is a must play if you’re into Narrative RPG, but currently playing a Coriolis campaign, the popular space RPG by free league
I picked up Icewind Dale again. It’s one of my comfort games, along with several of the other Infinity Engine games. Still holds up.
just picked up fallout 4 goty
works beautifully (for me, ~40 fps) with ultra settings @1440p on my thinkpad with igpu :)
Just finished my annual Far Cry 2 play through, and it was as chaotic and random as ever.
Man that series fell off quickly after that one. I liked 3 a good bit, but it was still a massive downgrade from Far Cry 2 in some respects. Just replayed 2 on PC at the start of the year after not playing it since the Xbox 360 days in 720p.
Youre right. Just finished far cry 6. Bought it cause I hadn’t played since 2.
Just finished SOMA a few years late. Asks some very good questions…
I loved Soma, so much existential angst.
I love the big revelations and how they are done. It’s definitely a game which makes you think.
I also love that they put in the no deaths mode so you can ignore the monsters which whilst cool I don’t think added much to the experience for me other than frustration trying to sneak past them.
I started to play RE2: Remake somedays ago. Has been a struggle since I only have like 2 hours to play per day. Yesterday started the second part of the game with Claire, and man, I laugh my ass off because the fucking zombies doesn’t let her take a breath.
I’ve been playing on void linux with GE-Proton10-15 (GE-Proton10-19 came out like 3 hours ago, for someone’s information)
Damn I haven’t played an RE game since probably RE6. I’ve always loved horror movies but I think I’m too much of a big baby to play horror games regularly.
I skipped RE6 and all of the RE: Revelations games. I can’t play those games because I can’t handle the action factor that they have. Still, the last RE games I played were RE7 and RE8. I loved them, especially 8.
I played Heartworm. It’s an indie survival horror game that came out recently. It’s a very unique game in the genre. I highly recommend it.
I literally just finished the 3D remake of Final Fantasy 3 (PC version) before coming here. After I’m done here, I’m going to start playing Roller Coaster Tycoon Deluxe.
I also somewhat recently finished the original PC version of Doom 3 and it’s expansion pack. I understand why people don’t like it as much as Doom 1 and 2 but I still think the game was good.
Finally got around to playing Devotion by Red Candle Games. It’s a super good horror game, but without getting into spoilers, I absolutely would NOT recommend this to parents, holy shit. Shame that the CCP bombed this game into obscurity, the devs did not deserve this.
I’ve been playing only retro games lately and I just finished Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for a second time yesterday. Now I’m continuing playing the Fatal Frame saga on my ps2.
