    ❗️Iran pursues bilateral, trilateral monetary cooperation with BRICS members

    Speaking at the BRICS summit in India, Iranian Central Bank Governor Abdolnasser Hemmati praised New Delhi’s leadership of the group and said Iran and India had begun strengthening cooperation in monetary, banking and digital economy sectors.

    Hemmati said the summit offered a key opportunity to meet officials from BRICS member states with which Iran has the most significant monetary and banking ties.

    He said Tehran believed BRICS members could conduct trade using their national currencies and was pursuing bilateral and trilateral monetary cooperation with other members of the bloc.

      I personally think that this was one of the key reasons for the desperate attack by the US. Iran’s inclusion in the BRICS Development Bank may make the entire sanctions regime of the US largely useless.

        Agreed. US capital saw it as their last chance to recapture their fading hegemony, only to have it blow up spectacularly in their faces. The empire is not dead yet, but it will never recover from this wound either. The world is moving on without it, with India no less helping in that direction.

        Not that it really matters, I guess, but does anyone know if all the currencies are fiat or who has what backing their currencies? I read here recently that some state has decided to ditch fiat, but I can’t recall which, at the present. Maybe Burkina Faso. 🤔
