British police actually care about their communities and favour de-escalation over violence since it curates respect and obedience better than otherwise. American cops favour large budgets and shiny toys that go boom and will allow whatever it takes to gain more of them. American cops also enjoy shooting people for sport as evidenced by the majority of police shootings the past several decades. British police have quail hunts for that itch.

    Neither police “deal with crime”.

Both protect capital against the working class. Both use violence to achieve this, the US ones are just more open about it.

I’d like to see you figure out a better way of killing flies, lighting matches, and opening cans of beans. Why, my bike has a little gun mounted to the handlebars that I use to let pedestrians know I’m coming.

I’m not American, so I may be missing some of the historical and cultural context. Still, I worry that the broad availability of firearms, and the political influence of the gun industry, can make violence more lethal and encourage a culture of fear and self-protection. The right to own firearms has historical and constitutional roots, but I believe access should be carefully regulated and that owning a gun should be the exception, not the norm.
