Yeah, I started working for a company with a lot of Windows servers two years ago and I still can’t wrap my brain around them. I’ve been a Linux sysadmin/sysarchitect for 20+ years and I’m still completely lost how to get Windows to much of anything. I usually don’t have to do much on those servers, but when I do its StackOverflow that’s really administering them. It’s because I lack foundational knowledge about windows and also because I’m fine not having that knowledge.
Any time you see a video of a cat backing up and saying “no no no no no” it’s because they’re watching the researcher’s hand move toward the on switch of that centrifuge.
Its arrogant to think all the information we have now will survive long term. Future humans may curse us for the all history we’ve destroyed while studying history.
UDP seems more like a ball fired from canon to me. You may not be prepared for it and you won’t know what state it’s in when it gets here, but that packet is making it to the gate no matter what. Or, in the rare case it doesn’t, it means someone else is having a real bad time.
Mine was a Leading Edge Model D and 8088 PC with 512k of RAM. It was the more expensive model that had a little metal switch on the back that could turn on EGA graphics. My family got it 3rd hand when I was 8 or 9. I mostly used it for making greeting cards and banners (on the tractor feed dot matrix printer) and copying basic programs out of Byte magazine.
