I think the brazenness is the whole point here. This is going to be a kangaroo court with the goal of intimidating other Latin American countries. The message here is that we can just go ahead and abduct you in the middle of the night, and there’s nothing you can do about it.
Last I checked Venezuela is a sovereign state, so the US law does not apply to a citizen of Venezuela in the first place.
I honestly am curious what legal tricks they are going to pull out because charging another country’s citizen bases on your law is insane
