If we feel good about it, we’re primed to continue the dark pattern. The first step is acknowledging the problem. If you remove the first step, subsequent steps can’t happen.
I get where you’re coming from. I see land acknowledgements used in colonies like NZ, Canada and USA yet treaties remain broken. I think (IMO) the answer is “all the things” rather than some. But we’re not even shuffling the deck yet as a population so making first steps accessible is important in my own experience. Too much in one go and peoples eyes glaze over.
I find it difficult to respect the way we exist in society. Most of us in the west enjoy what we have because someone elsewhere is being exploited. The general pride and vanity we have is unjustified and we should be using that power for good instead. We are focused on the right wrong things.
You could say that this opinion isn’t unpopular, but just try bringing it up in conversation. Many don’t want to know.
The island was so small that it was a camp itself, just referred to as Ireland. I can understand how that could be missed in a relative brief search.
It was heavily surveilled, controlled and garrisoned with similar abuse and exploitation that Native Americans faced. So the name and presentation is different maybe, but it’s essentially the same.
Later there were further camps called internment camps and prison camps. You’ll find reference to these around the time of the 1798 rebellion.
Britains first colonial project was Ireland, which began around 1169 and intensified into the 1500s. They still occupy a part of the island and killings of unarmed civilians (sometimes children, sometimes shot in the back) are still being investigated and prosecuted.
And USA learned it from the British.
Good question. That was over twenty years ago when Internet Explorer was “king”. Firefox was smaller. The internet, and it’s users were less sophisticated. The competition was lethargic. So I don’t know how to make a comparison.
What do you think?
Wow. That’s the best idea I’ve ever heard. I wish I thought of that sooner, thank you!
I do. Great idea! That’s actually better than the email because it will account for places I’ve deleted the emails for. Thanks!
Be sure and tell them how they’ll replace the funds while you’re at it.
I would love to see a non-proprietary desktop music player. Just something simple that I can listen to my MP3s with. Audacity is great, but it’s a PITA when it comes to casual listening.
/s. As sbv Said in another comment, I think it’s best to join an existing project. Loops has potential to rival TikTok but it’s still not in a state I would use.
Edit: I could have placed the /s a bit better to flag my surreal sense of humour. I was joking about FOSS lacking a desktop music player, because there seem to be hundreds of them. I use Audacity for editing, not listening to mp3s :)
We’ve been debating whether someone remembering a birthday is a reflection of how much they care or not.
I never got the email either so I’m curious too. I’ll save this post.
I’ve subscribed to both based on the background info you gave so thank you again. I do find those histories a bit bleak, having grown up in the (relatively distant) aftermath of it. But if those voices are represented then I think I’d be interested.
I’d like to listen if you don’t mind sharing some links or search terms.
That’s exactly the issue, yes. Also there’s the converging monoculture of English speakers, including my own country, Ireland. So even though English podcasts span a huge array of topics I still feel like I’m listening to the same mindset.
Thank you. 🙏 That is actually right up my alley, although I prefer to hear from the indigenous perspective for now. NZ people of settler lineage are generally the same group I’m trying to avoid (including my own native Irish people who speak English as a first language). I will come back to it though so thanks again.
Go raibh maith agat as sin. Chláraigh mé do “comm” freisin, is breá liom é.
Blood Quantum, for the humour and great cast. Outback, for being based in a true story.
The code is one thing. 300 skilled developers is another. Most of those could be full-time too.
